Review: Mint Cosmetics Teeth Whitening Kit*

Hey everyone,
I was recently contacted by Mint Cosmetics to see if I wanted to review a teeth whitening kit. I had not long ago had my teeth whitened so I didn’t think it was worth using on myself. My Mum has been a smoker for the majority of her life (she has been a non-smoker for 5 months now though, woohoo) so she did have very discoloured teeth so I thought the kit would be perfect to use on her :)
The kit arrived really quickly and we started using it a few weeks later. It was really easy to use and the instructions were clear and simple. The kit includes: an instructional DVD and manual, three mouth trays and a case, four x 3cc whitening gels of 0.16% Sodium Perborate (unique to Mint Cosmetics, enough for 50 applications), applicator tip (to ensure accurate and effective whitening), teeth shade guide and a Mint Cosmetics whitening pen (included for a limited time only).

So this is what the kit includes and for £44.99 its an absolute steal, but there are also other options, for example, there is another kit that includes two lots of the whitening gel, two mouth trays and the container an applicator tip and instructional manual for only £34.99 which is really all you need! You can also buy two of the whitening gels on their own for £16.99, which is perfect if you have already purchased the trays etc. The whitening pen (which includes around 15 applications) and is ideal if you don't like the idea of the mouth trays is also only £16.99. They also offer worldwide shipping, which is brilliant.
We started off reading the instructions, but they were so simple and easy to understand, we didn't feel the need for the DVD, so we didn't watch that. The first step was to get the moulds to fit my Mum's teeth. You had to do this by holding the trays one at a time into boiling water for 8 seconds, then you left it a few seconds before putting it onto your top or bottom teeth, then once it was on your teeth you had to hold it in place with your fingers, whilst biting down on the tray, to try and get the trays to fit perfectly around the teeth, so it stays in place once you start the whitening process.
It did take us a few trys and we did manage to ruin one of the trays as we held it in the boiling water for too long and it all collapsed in on itself. But the other two worked fine and we did have to keep putting them back into the water a few times so that we could get them perfect but it was a pretty simple process :)

This is how the guards look when you first get them out of the packet.

This is how they looked once we had moulded them to my Mum's tooth shape, you can see the indents in the bottom of the guards, marking all the individual teeth. These aren't perfect, I'm sure you could get them looking a lot better, but they worked really well!

This was the one we managed to melt, oops. But it does show how just a few extra seconds is enough to ruin it to the point of no return! So, I would recommend only holding it in the water for 6 seconds rather than 8 and if you do have to put it back in the water a few times, do it even less.

This is what the teeth whitening gel applicator looks like, the blue thing is the applicator tip, which makes application so much more precise. You should get 50 applications out of the four of the applicators, so you only have to use a tiny bit.

This is how the gel looks once applied onto the tray, you can see you only have to apply it on the inside front of the tray, not all the way around, as it only really matters to whiten the teeth that show when you smile. You leave the gel on for 30-40 minutes and can do this once or twice a day for a recommended time of 14 days. These are the results we saw after one application a day for just seven days!
Here's the before and after pictures:
before and after

You can see a dramatic difference in the tooth colour, without it looking false. Before they were really discoloured, but now they are a lot lighter and lots of people  have been noticing and commenting on my Mum's teeth, so it has definitely worked! In another week, I'm sure they will look even better :)
I can honestly say this kit is brilliant and I will be recommending it to everyone. It caused no sensitivity for my Mum, whereas my teeth whitening that I get done every two years by laser really bloody hurts and it hurts more every time I get it done, so I might opt for this next time I need a top up! The results are seriously impressive and its ridiculously easy, so perfect for anyone and its really nice to be able to do it in the comfort of your own home.
If you want to have a look and read more about Mint Cosmetics and what they have to offer, you can find them here!
Thanks for reading!
Have you had your teeth whitened before?

  1. Omg this looks amazing! You can really see a difference with your mum's teeth too. Do you have to be a certain age to use it? I'm just wondering because I'm only 16 :-)

  3. Wow. That looks great. I am not familiar with this product because I have an Ionic Pearl which works really well. It would be interesting to see how they compare and what you think. The Pearl uses a pulse that activates the gel to remove stains. Thought you and your readers might want to know about other options, although it looks like you had a great experience.
