Baker Days Personalised Letterbox Cake Review

Hi everyone,
This morning I'm posting about something a little different, my first post that isn't makeup/skincare related!
I got sent a cake* from Baker Days , a company that specialises in personalised cakes. They have many different types of cakes and four different sizes to choose from. I was sent a letterbox cake, which is obviously perfect size to fit through your letterbox. I LOVE this idea, I think it is such a nice gift for someone and I will 100% be repurchasing for my friend's birthdays.
It comes packaged in a sturdy box and inside they had popped in a little card, that you could put a message on for your friend, and also a little packet of love hearts sweets. The tin the cake comes in is so sweet and I will definitely reuse it. They really did well with packaging and I think it would be pretty hard for this to get damaged in the post.
So, this is how it looks once you have opened the tin. As I said earlier, they are personalised and you can personalise them with any picture or message you like! I chose this owl pattern that I found on Google, as I love owls :) The pattern transfered beautifully and I was so pleased with the overall look of the cake.
You can choose to have a letterbox cake in four flavours, sponge cake at £14.99 or for an extra £2; fruit cake, chocolate chip cake or gluten and wheat free cake. I chose the gluten and wheat free as my fiancee is on a gluten free diet and he finds it so hard to find gluten free food that actually tastes like food. So, I got one for us to both to try to see if we could taste the difference.
This cake was delicious, I cannot fault it in any way, especially on taste. I expected a gluten free cake to taste of cardboard, but it was full of flavour and completely delicious. I could not tell it was different to a normal sponge cake at all. Usually I'm not a fan of icing on cakes, I usually find it far too sweet, but this icing was perfect!
It comes wrapped in plastic and has instructions on the top for how to remove the cake without damaging it. I cannot get over how cute this design is too! I will definitely be getting a letterbox cake made with a photo on it for my best friends on their birthdays! How nice would it be to get that little surprise pop through your letterbox? The idea is just brilliant, my Mum is already planning who she's going to send them out for!
This cake is perfect, I could not believe how fresh and moist it was, It tasted like it was freshly made. I ordered it and it came 48 hours later, which is brilliant service, but you can also pay for it to come within 2-3 days with express delivery. Which is perfect for when you almost forget someone's birthday!
At £14.99 I think it is a great price and an excellent gift idea for anyone and suitable for all occasions. You can buy and personalise your own letterbox cake at Baker Days .

Dior Rosy Glow Blusher Review

Hey everyone,

A few weeks ago I popped into Debenhams as I had some points on my beauty card and a voucher to use up, so I decided to look for a high end product to splurge on.

I wandered over to the Dior counter and there was no one to colour match me for a foundation (which was what I wanted originally), then I saw the Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush and that was that, I had to have it.

The packaging is gorgeous, it comes in a silver box and inside that is a velvet pouch that holds the compact. The compact is really sturdy, the top is sort of mirrored (more like a funhouse mirror - it makes you look all warped) and the bottom is clear plastic.

Inside the compact there is a large mirror and there is also a brush included, which I don't actually use as I prefer a standard blush brush, I use the Real Techniques one. The blusher is embossed with a pattern of the word 'Dior' which is a lovely touch. In this picture it still has the protective plastic over it, if you're wondering why it is reflecting.

In the pan it is this garrish shade of pink that I would never opt for usually but the clever thing about this blusher, and what sold it to me, is it adapts to suit everyone and anyone's skin tone, to give a very, subtle and natural flush of colour.

This blusher does exactly that, it gives you a perfect, subtle glow, enough to really define your cheek bones but look so natural at the same time. I have been wearing this blusher for over five hours now and it has shown absolutely no sign of budging and hasn't faded at all.

Here's a picture of when I first applied it:

See how natural it looks? I love it!

It does have a hefty price tag of £30.50, but I really think it is worth it though, the colour is unbelievably natural and it really doesn't budge. The compact is gorgeous and the product actually does exactly what it says it is supposed to do! You also don't have to use much, but it is buildable too.

You can see how subtle and natural it is, which is exactly what I wanted :)

I also got these samples and four perfume samples to try too!

Thanks for reading!

Selfridges Limited Edition Festival Beauty Box!

Hey guys,

Yesterday my postman bought me lots of goodies and one of the things he delivered was my Selfridges order, I got the Limited Edition Festival Beauty Box and two other beauty products from the sale which I will post about soon.

So, this box is limited edition and they sell out pretty quick, so if you want to order one you can find it HERE for £25 which is a great price considering the products combined total is £110!

So, it comes in a pretty basic box that's really flimsy so that went straight in the bin, I like the Glossybox boxes, they're so sturdy and great for storage.

You get a total of 11 items, with some well known brands and others less known, but still a great selection, none the less. The theme is 'Festival' and they really have done well sticking to that, although I won't be attending any festivals, I'll get plenty of use out of this lot!

NPW Mini Scented Hand & Face Wipes - 10 Wipes

I carry some mini wipes in my handbag everywhere I go, you never realise how handy they are until you forget to bring them! I like that these are suitable for hands and face, usually you get one or the other, so these are definitely a welcome addition. These are scented, I really don't like unscented wipes, so I'm glad of that!

Cowshed Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel - 50ml

Another item that is never absent from my handbag is my beloved hand sanitiser, I am, admittedly, a complete germaphobe. So, my handbag is definitely making some new friends today, as this will definitely replace the ugly looking one I got from PC World because it was reduced to 10p that currently lives there, haha.

This is a natural anti-bacterial gel with essential oils of sweet orange and peppermint and it definitely smells of peppermint. This is alcohol-free which is great, as I hate the smell of the alcohol ones. It is also enriched with a corn-derived moisturiser, so I'm definitely happy that it is moisturising because my hands are so dry at the moment!

NPW Chubby Glitter Stick - 12g

This is a pink glitter stick that to be honest I don't think I will ever use...unless me and my best friend get bored again and decide to go out in public with crazy makeup on, and a pair of tights on our heads like we did once before, don't ask, haha.

NPW recommend applying to 'cheeks, collar bones, arms, legs or wherever you want to sparkle!' They also recommend for use at fancy dress, parties, festivals and for summer fun.

Sol de Janeiro Coconut Water Cooling Mist - 150ml

I really like this, I hate being hot so this is the perfect product for me and a big 150ml bottle should get me through the three days of hot weather we would be likely to expect this summer in England, the way things are going right now! You can use it on your face and body, it really does have a cooling effect.

Illamasqua Liquid Metal in 'Surge' - 8g (Full Size)

This is a multi-use pigmented metallic cream, Illamasqua recomment using it to 'adorn eyes, face and body'. It almost intimidated me looking at the pot and seeing a pewter, silvery shade staring back at me. But I have just swatched it and I think it would look nice on the eyes, maybe on top of a powder eyeshadow to just give a bit of shimmer, I will have to experiment with this one!

Violent Lips Lip Appliques in Warm Rainbow - 3 Temporary Lip Appliques

This is three of those crazy lip design appliques in a warm rainbow design, almost like temporary tattoos but for the lips. I have no idea how they work, but I will definitely test these out with some friends or hopefully my fiancee (haha) soon and post some pictures for you guys!

Topshop Lip Crayon in 'Powder Room' - 1.6g

Powder Room is a gorgeous, wearable pale pink shade that gives a matte finish, I find matte lip products too drying so I will definitely be putting a clear gloss on top of this.

Coloursmash Hair Shadow - 4.1g

'Smash it on. Seal with spray. Wash it out' is how you are supposed to use this product according to Coloursmash. This is something I would never, ever buy but I could definitely have some fun with this, the glitter stick and the lip appliques!

BareMinerals Pretty Amazing Moxie Lip Gloss - 4ml

I won a BareMinerals lip gloss in a competition last week and really liked it, so I was really happy for this to be included! I'm not usually a lip gloss kinda gal, but I'm going through a  'broadening my horizons' phase! This is such a gorgeous shade too!

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner in Navy - 2g

As, I said just now, I'm enduring a 'broadening my horizons' phase, so I'm looking forward to trying out an eye liner in a colour other than black! These eyeliner pens get great reviews and are described as 'easy to control' - my shaky hands definitely approve of this claim!

Apparently it is 'Smudgeproof, fadeproof and above all, foolproof', sounds good to me!

Azature Nail Lacquer in Champagne - 15ml

Saving the best 'till last, I was thrilled to see this being included! This brand currently sells a 15ml bottle of nail polish on Selfridges for £160,000, made from 267 carat black diamonds, I often wonder if there has been anyone crazy enough to buy it! This is a much cheaper version, obviously, but still retails at £17 and it is literally the most gorgeous shimmery, brown colour, I cannot wait to try this out! This still contains real black diamonds, how crazy is that?! I think I am in love.

So, even though there are few things I wouldn't use (unless it was for a laugh), there are still some amazing products and some others that I cannot wait to experiment with in my latest mission of broadening my horizons!

Remember if you want this, be quick! They sell out fast :)

Summer Sales Part One - Kiko Cosmetics - Big Haul!

Hey everyone,

My bank account is really hating me these past two weeks with all the great summer sales that are on at the moment, but how can you resist such good offers?!

So, last week I put in quite a big order with Kiko Cosmetics, an Italian company that I have heard so many amazing things about but have never tried for myself, so when I saw they were having a sale, I jumped at the chance to get some goodies!

You should definitely expect a few haul posts soon, my postman has been bringing me plenty of 'presents' as I like to call them, that way I don't feel bad about spending all my money, haha.

So, here's what I got! I really like the boxes they are packaged in, especially the bottom left two compacts which are textured and  have a lovely design. I'm such a sucker for pretty packaging, it seals the deal for me.

Left - Sun Pearl Nail Lacquer in 430 'Chili Pepper Red'

This nail polish is from the Sun Pearl range and is a deep red with golden shimmery flecks, I know this is going to be my Christmas nail polish for sure! It was on sale for £2.40.

Right - Nail Lacquer in 344 'Light Misty Green'

This is a sort of an aqua colour with a hint of green and I really love it, I have no idea what Kiko nail polishes are like, but I will definitely do some reviews and swatches of these shades. This was on sale too, for £2.50. They have sooo many shades available, it is hard to pick just one.

Colour Explosion Multi-tone Blush in 01 'Wild Sienna'

This is such a stunning , incredibly sturdy compact and I love the combination of shades. This was reduced to £5.90, such a great price, the packaging alone would cost at least double that if it was a high end brand! I love the idea of combining the shades or using them alone.

Sun Bronzing Blush in 100 'Marine Coral'

Another beautiful compact, with some truly gorgeous shades. I have swatched this and the shades are all ridiculously pigmented and I think this is gonna become one of my favourite products, I'm definitely considering ordering some of the other shades. This was reduced to £6.90!

Essential Bronzer in 200 'Warm Melange'

This is probably my favourite thing I ordered , look at the size of it! This will last me forever and I'm sure it smells like chocolate. I have swatched this too and again, it is sooo pigmented. This is a very warm shade, so for someone as pale as me you literally need the tiniest bit. This was reduced to £7.90!

Long Lasting Lipstick in 02 'Coral Pink'

Having heard great things about these I was delighted to see them reduced to £3.40! I don't usually use lipsticks as I find them drying, but I definitely had to give this a go. This is a really nice colour but after quickly testing it, I think I would have to have a clear gloss or something over it as it does feel quite dry.

Ultra Glossy Stylo in 804 'Pearly Watermelon'

This wasn't in the sale but it caught my eye and was £4.90 so wasn't expensive anyway. This has a lovely texture, and looks reallly nice on. It feels lovely and light on your lips, like you aren't wearing anything at all. I really like this, its already moved home into my handbag!

Kiss Balm in 03 'Tutti Frutti'

Another product I have heard great things about, this was also not in the sale and was priced at £5.90. It smells gorgeous, I can't decide what it smells like exactly but it just reminds me of being a kid in a sweet shop getting a pick'n'mix! This is super hydrating, which is perfect for me. It is quite sheer, so its quite natural looking, another great lip product!

Eyebrow Wax Fixing Pencil

I have been wanting this for a while and this was also full price and cost me £5.90. I usually use a clear eyebrow mascara to set my eyebrows, so wanted to try this out and see if it does a better job of keeping them in place.

Automatic Eyeshadow - EyeTech Look in '04 Bronze'

This appealed to me firstly because of the price, reduced to £2.90 you can't go wrong really, and secondly, because anything that is apparently easy, is good in my books!

They also threw in some free samples of some of their skincare products. Sachets like this are usually too small for me to work out if I like a product of not, I usually get on fine with a product then a week later, the dry skin sets in, but I will definitely give these a go!

I am so happy with this order and can't wait to try out everything properly. Let me know what you want me to review, just leave me a comment and I will do it ASAP :)

Illamasqua Powder Eyeshadow in 'Justify' Review

Illamasqua were new to me a few months ago and I hadn't heard much about them, if it wasn't for the fact their brand name reminded me of llamas, I probably wouldn't have taken the plunge. Everyone loves llamas, right?!  I promise I'm not crazy. Anyway, I am so glad I did try some of their products out and one eyeshadow in particular really stood out for me.

This is the Illamasqua Powder Eyeshadow in 'Justify'.

First of all, I love their packaging, its so simple but really classy at the same time. It's a really sturdy little compact and comes with just the eyeshadow, no applicator or anything and I, like most people, use brushes anyway so thats not a problem for me.

This is my number one go-to shade for a simple daytime look, it is the perfect ,classic neutral shade and I am completely smitten with it. The colour is sort of a light ash brown, Illamasqua describe it as a 'cool, sandy brown'. It applies like a dream and has the most velvety, smooth texture I have ever experienced with an eyeshadow and has absolutely no fall out.

As with many of Illamsqua's products, you can use this for more than one thing. So this is not only a perfect eyeshadow, this doubles up to be a contouring powder.
It is definitely buildable but at the same time incredibly pigmented. I just wear this on its own and it doesn't crease and lasts all day!

Here's a swatch and you can faintly see where I still can't get them eyeliner swatches off from yesterday's post, haha!

Illamasqua are a fantastic brand and have some really interesting and unique products. This eyeshadow is seriously like nothing I have ever owned in texture, it just blends so easily and I just am completely in love with it!

This retails at £15.50 but it is worth every penny and more!

Pencil Eyeliners for Waterline - The Good, The Bad and The Bloody Hard to Remove!

Hey everyone,

This post idea came to me as I have lost my favourite pencil eyeliner, the Waterproof Eye Pencil by Yves Saint Laurent and as I haven't bought any pencil eyeliners in a while (I usually use liquid) I had to go rummaging through some older ones I have and thought I would try a few out.

I only use pencil eyeliners on my waterline and I also use it on my tight line/upper waterline. It's a quick and easy look that I use when I don't want heavy eye makeup.

So, I found six different pencil eyeliners and decided to test them all out to find one to try and replace my YSL one.

Barry M Bold Waterproof Eyeliner - £3.99

The good:
-Waterproof
-Very good colour pay off
-Long Lasting
-Cheap

The bad:
-Hard to remove
-Feels heavy and quite uncomfortable for a while after you first apply it

Would I repurchase? Yes, this is an excellent for when you need a waterproof and cheap too!

myface.cosmetics Eye Pencil £9.99

I really like this brand, and with 40% off your entire purchase using the code 'SUMMER40' online and free delivery on orders over £25, you should definitely check them out HERE .

The good:
-Smooth application
-Very good colour pay off
-Long lasting
-Great discounts online

The bad:
-Cannot pick up in store, would have to order online

Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely, this was my favourite eyeliner pencil that I tried today.

17 Eye Liner £2.89

The good:
-Price

The bad:
-Very little colour pay off
-Far too hard, definitely not soft enough for an eye pencil, feels more like an actual pencil on your eye!

Would I repurchase? Absolutely not!

Lancome Le Crayon Khol - £16

The good:
-The only good thing about this eyeliner is that with some high end brands, you can get refunds even if you have used the product.

The bad:
-Price
-Not smooth enough for a pencil eyeliner.
-Very little colour pay off

Would I repurchase? No way. I love Lancome products and hate to say I don't like something of theirs but this really doesn't work for me.

Avon SuperShock Gel Eyeliner - £6

The good:
Price (is sometimes half price as well!)
-Excellent colour pay off!
-Very soft

The bad:
-Very hard to remove!!
-If you get the gel on your eyelashes it sticks them together and you have to start all over again.

Would I repurchase? Yes, the most pigmented of all the eyeliners I tested today, just have to be really careful with application not to get it in your eyelashes!

Clinique Quickliner for Eyes Intense - £14

The good:
-Really easy, smooth application
-Very good colour pay off
-Requires no sharpening (twist up pencil)
-Really soft

The bad:
-Twist up pencil must break easily as I have never used this and it won't open any further than it does already, so I will probably get two uses out if it!
-It isn't the cheapest.

Would I repurchase? No, I really, really liked this one but the fact it was broken (before I even swatched it) has put me off repurchasing.

Some swatches of them all:

L-R: Barry M, myface.cosmetics, 17, Lancome, Avon & Clinique. Sorry about the Avon line being huge, it is in desperate need of sharpening, haha.

Thanks for reading!

If I Had £50 TAG

Hey everyone :)

I was tagged to do this post by Amy from Amy's Beauty Journal and thought it looked like a fun post!

Here are the rules:
1. Pick a shop any shop. Whatever that shop is you have £50 to spend. Pick whatever you want. (Clothing shops may not work as well because sometimes it costs £50 for one thing)
2. The title of the post must be " "If I had £50" TAG " so people know what the post is about.
3. You must state that this post was created by me AlexRocksXO
4. Thank who tagged you. It's just polite :-)
5. Tag at least one person.
6. Copy and paste the rules onto the top of your post.

I thought it would be a bit boring just picking one or two more expensive or high end products so I chose Superdrug for some cheaper beauty brands, plus there's so many things I want to try out from brands I have never tried!

1. Sleek Face Contour Kit in Fair - £9.99

So, the first thing I picked was this as I've been wanting it for a while. You get a sculpting/contouring powder, a highlighting powder and a blusher in 'Rose Gold'. This looks like a great little compact, perfect for your handbag for touch ups during the day. I've never tried Sleek so I'm excited to try some of their products out.

2. Essie Nail Polish in 'Chinchilly' - £7.99

I love Essie polishes, they're probably my favourites and when I saw this shade, I knew it was going on my wishlist. It's a really unique grey colour, a greige sort of shade and I need  this polish in my life!

3. Bourjois Blusher Delice De Poudre Peau Mates Halee - £6.99

This is a bronzing powder that actually smells like chocolate, instant attraction for a chocolate addict like myself! It also has little flecks of gold in it and I would love to try this out.

4. FashionistA Concealer in Light - £3

I like the idea of this brush on concealer and haven't tried anything FashionistA before so this seemed a good option for me. I'm always on the look out for the perfect concealer and the fact this was half price sweetened the deal even more!

5. MUA Eyeshadow Pro Palette in Undressed - £4

I've heard so much about this and have been meaning to order it for ages but I am waiting for my Real Techniques eye brushes to arrive from America (they were half price) before I buy anymore eyeshadow!

6. Sally Hansen Strengthening Nail Polish Remover - £2.34

I recently tried a different brand of nail polish remover and I didn't like it at all so I am needing a bottle of my regular Sally Hansen one back!

7. Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Celestial - £4.49

This has been on my wishlist for a while, so this definitely had to go into this tag. They look so pigmented and I'd love to try this out in 'Celestial'.

8. MUA Pro-Base Eye Primer - £2.50

I've heard good things about this product and as MUA are a new brand to me, I want to try as many different things as possible, especially as they are so purse-friendly!

9. FashionistA Bronzer in Rome - £2

I love the look of baked bronzers and don't own one so considering all FashionistA products are half price, for £2, you can't go wrong really!

10. MUA Eyeshadow Trio Shadow Merged in Emotions - £3

I've also never tried baked eyeshadows and these neutral shades really appealed to me.

11. NYC Applelicious Balm in Applelicious Pink - £2.49

I've heard some really good things about these and tinted lip balms are my favourite lip products. NYC is also a new brand to me!

12. MUA Blusher in Candyfloss - £1

£1, come on seriously?! For £1, I definitely want to try this and their blushers seem to get good reviews so even better! :)

So, these 12 items totalled at £49.79 and I think that's a lot of product for your money and I hope all of these products will be in my possesion soon :)

I really enjoyed doing this post and wanted to tag a few others to take part:

Ash B at A Beauty Moment
